United Love, Promoting to alleviate  "illness-induced poverty" in Modern China

"Children Leukemia Care" is a comprehensive control of childhood cancer program, which is a public welfare social innovation program in close cooperation with government departments, taking childhood leukemia as a pilot disease, and taking Heyuan City of Guangdong Province, Qinghai and Gansu Province as pilot areas. The program innovated a comprehensive and integrated model that focuses on major disease prevention and control, centered on four aspects - cost reimbursement, family care for patients, medical capacity enhancement, and drug policy improvement. It aims to explore effective methods to alleviate "illness-induced poverty" and establish a long-lasting mechanism for health poverty alleviation, to help the country realize the "Healthy China strategy". By the October 2023, a total of 20,906,286.31 yuan was invested for children suffering from leukemia in Heyuan. Over the past five years, "Children Leukemia Care" has assisted 174 children suffering from leukemia and helped Heyuan Municipal People's Hospital establish a Department of Children's Hematology from scratch. Additionally, the study of health technology assessment (HTA) has helped to promote the clinical use of two new potent drugs in the treatment of childhood leukemia, which have now been included in the National Reimbursement Drug List (NRDL). The charity program was successfully introduced to Qinghai Province in 2019, benefiting 118 children and young adults diagnosed with leukemia in Qinghai. As a result of its success, the program was expanded to Gansu Province in 2023, further extending its reach and impact.
